Pot ser que el Porsche 918 Spyder sigui millor i tot que el Bugatti Veyron? Això és el que s’ha preguntat Steve Sutcliffe després de provar-lo al circuit de Cheste. I la veritat és que no m’extranya. A més a més de caminar com cap altre Porsche ho ha fet abans, i allà està el 6:57 que va fer fa un parell de mesos al Nürburgring com a prova, incorpora tanta, tantíssima tecnologia que ben bé podríem dir que està una dècada (o més) avançat al seu temps.
Amb aquest cotxe em passa com amb el 959. No és ni tan passional ni possiblement transmet el mateix que el McLaren P1 i LaFerrari quan els veus passar pel carrer. Després de tot la seva estètica no és gaire més estrident que la d’un McLaren MP4-12C o un Ferrari 458 Italia. No obstant, i al igual que passava amb el 959, la gràcia d’aquests cotxe està allà on no arriba la vista. En aquest sentit, el 918 Spyder és tota una revolució.
Si el Porsche 959 comptava amb turbos d’accionament seqüencials, tracció total i no-se-quants gadgets més, el 918 Spyder compta amb dos motors elèctrics, un per cada eix, en perfecta sincronia amb un V8 de 4.6 litres capaç de pujar de voltes com si no hi hagués demà. Aquest motor per sí sol rendeix una potència de 608 CV i un parell màxim de 528 Nm, mentre que els elèctrics aporten 154 CV al darrere i 125 CV adicionals al davant. Total? 887 CV i un parell de 1.275 Nm. Amb raó aquest trasto no té problemes per superar els registres del Veyron fins als 300 km/h.
El més fascinant de tot plegat és que tot i unes xifres d’infart, tot i només necessitar 20 segons per arribar als 300 km/h, el 918 Spyder pot recòrrer una trentena de kilòmetres en mode totalment elèctric, homologant de passada un consum mig de 3,3 litres cada 100 kilòmetres i unes emissions inferiors i tot a les de qualsevol SEAT Ibiza. Si m’arriben a dir fa cinc anyets que Porsche treuria al mercat un cotxe capaç d’aconseguir aquests registres, no m’ho hagués cregut.
Tornant a la pregunta del principi, pot ser que el Porsche 918 Spyder sigui millor i tot que el Bugatti Veyron? Ni idea. És una pregunta de molt difícil resposta. Perquè què és millor? Més ràpid? Que accelera de 0 a 350 km/h en menys temps? Al cap i a la fi tot això és secundari quan el teu producte aconsegueix redefinir les normes del joc. Ho va fer el Veyron fa uns anys i ho ha fet ara el nou super-esportiu de Porsche. En aquest sentit tinc la sensació que la practicitat del 918 Spyder, la facilitat amb la que el podem fer servir tant per anar a comprar el pa com per baixar dels 7 minuts al Nürburgring, farà d’aquests invent un dels millors cotxes de la història.
